Rabunite Designs Georgia Tag!

June 24, 2013

TU Tag 053Congratulations to Rabunite Broderick Crawford, whose design of a Brook Trout surfacing for a fly was chosen by the public in a voting process as the new GA Wildlife license plate! The new tags are a one-time first purchase fee of $60.00 then a $35.00 renewal fee each year. A portion of the fees goes directly to TU’s efforts to conserve, protect and restore Georgia’s Trout fisheries. Pictured along with Broderick (L) and his winning design are Governor Nathan Deal (C) and Trout Unlimited National Leadership Council’s Georgia member Larry Vigil (R).

Aug 15: Chapter Meeting (NOTE NEW DATE AND LOCATION)

June 24, 2013

Aug 15 (Thurs) Meeting, 6:30 PM

Troop 6 Scout Hut

Program: Steve Hudson – Bluelining 101 — an introduction to the science and art of “bluelining” (hitting headwater streams).

Beginning in August, 2013 the Rabun Chapter monthly meetings will be held the third Thursday of each month, except for July and December, to be held at the “Scout Hut”, located on GA Hwy 76 West behind the Rabun County Library.

The Rabun Chapter has started a new youth outreach with the Boy and Girl Scouts of Rabun County!   The Scouts meet on Tuesday nights, which have also been the nights the Rabun Chapter met.  In order  to accommodate their schedule and allow the Scouts to be included in the Chapter meetings, we are changing the day of week for our monthly meetings.
In addition, the Scouts are remodeling their Scout Hut and have offered the use of the Hut to the Rabun Chapter.   This will give us more room to meet and provide a central, convenient location for our outreach to the Scouts.
For these reasons, the Rabun Chapter is changing the day of week and location for the monthly Rabun Chapter meetings. Beginning in August, 2013 the Rabun Chapter monthly meetings will be held the third Thursday of each month, except for July and December, to be held at the “Scout Hut”, located on GA Hwy 76 West behind the Rabun County Library.   Meetings will begin with a social time at 6:30 pm and a program to begin at 7:00 pm.  Parking for the meeting is in the Library parking lot or in the lot across Hwy 76.
So mark your calendars now for this change!  For more information, contact Jerry McFalls, Rabun Chapter Scout Outreach Coordinator.

Spring Camping & Fishing Outing: High Water, Tall Tales

June 3, 2013

Spring Camping & Fishing Outing, Location Cherry Hill C.G. High water…real high water…was the significant feature of the Rabun Chapter Campout at Cherry Hill. Fishing, wading and catching were all difficult but some Rabunites did prevail. Some smaller streams were explored and success was found there. Compared to previous chapter campouts the crowd was sparse. The most ever there around the fire was ten and that was for just one night. Since only three of us were there for the last night and rain was eminent, we broke camp early and headed for the house.

The chapter leadership needs to assess the chapter campouts and decide if there is enough interest and support to plan events in the future. A campout is a great way to build camaraderie and help new members learn to fish local waters. In years past there have been about 20 Rabunites around the fire with something good to drink and tall tales abounding. You didn’t have to believe ‘em if you didn’t want to…I didn’t believe. Those were good times.
